Co-designed by their achingly cool mums, celebrity hair stylist Lou Teasdale and Bleach founder and mummy blogger Emi Ozmen, the 12-piece collection is just what you and your little one have been waiting for! From cheeky slogan tees and the hero denim two-piece to floral tracksuits and cute co-ords in 70s-approved prints, it’s time to get matchy-matchy in more ways than one.
We spoke to Lou and Emi about the inspiration behind the collection, the design process and their style icons, read the interview and check out the collection now…
What’s the inspiration behind the collection?
We wanted to design a twinning collection that wasn’t cheesy to wear. It’s our guilty pleasure twinning with the girls but it’s hard to find cool or vintage styles. We have always loved vintage clothing so we’ve taken a lot of the patterns and colours from the 70s.
How did you approach the designing process?
We needed things that worked for both us and the kids and very much wanted the girls to be “mini us’s”, not us as giant kids obviously. We had a big brainstorm and sent each other all our fave mum and daughter looks and we both loved little flares and slogan t-shirts so it was really clear we wanted the collaboration to have quite a retro and 70’s feel.
Who are your style icons?
Lou: I like to look to my friends for inspo not just celebrities… Emi being one of those! She manages to indie up anything no matter how glam it is which I think gives her her iconic look.
Emi: My style icon is Jane Birkin, she’s the ultimate cool mum. I would say my style is Jane Birkin mixed with Jeffrey Scott!
How did you pick Silver & Lux’ names?
Lou: Lux’s name is from the Sophia Coppola film The Virgin Suicides. It sounds like a depressing inspiration but she’s a cool character and I always thought the name was pretty.
Emi: Me and Adam came up with Silver about a week after we found out we were pregnant. We just started talking about names and we liked colours. I said silver and we just knew that was that for either our first girl or boy.
If we asked Lux to describe Silver, what would she say?
Lou: She would talk about her hair because she’s SO jealous of her!
If we asked Silver to describe Lux, what would she say?
Emi: “Funny, kind and crazy” – her words!
What are your favourite pieces?
Lou: Lux likes the “I Break The Rules” t-shirt because she thinks it’s funny!
Emi: I think mine’s the denim suit, I love the 70’s collar. Silver loves the tracksuit best!
What’s the best thing about being a mum?
Lou: The companionship.
Emi: Having two little mates with me! Silver is really good company now she’s a bit older and we have proper girly chats and cuddle up to watch Britain’s Got Talent together.
Which mums and their children would you most like to see wearing the collection?
Lou: Kate Middleton and Charlotte!
Emi: I’ve got a bit of a mum crush on Gwen Stefani and her kids so would LOVE them to wear it.
